The Lord has called us to serve Him as full-time staff with university students in Newcastle, England. Newcastle is a vibrant and historic city and host to more than 50,000 university students, only about 2% of whom identify as Christian. Very few students can say they know an authentic, practising Christian their own age. But God has not forgotten this corner of the world; He is already at work transforming this city and this nation.
Here in Newcastle, we have the opportunity to come alongside Christian students to equip them to grow in their relationship with Jesus and in their confidence and experience sharing their faith with their friends and classmates. This past year, we had several students regularly initiating spiritual conversations with us on campus. Others joined us in starting or joining special interest groups to build relationships and trust with other students and give nonbelievers opportunities to experience the gospel lived out in community. We were able to gather Christian students from both universities and many different areas of study together to encourage, share their experiences, pray and form friendships – many had never met these other Christians on their campus before! We also had several students join us for a digital summer missions “trip” where they joined students from across Western Europe to receive training and step out in faith to share the gospel with their friends digitally.
